Well, well, well. It turns out that the Malaysian military is actually quite confident that it continued to track MAL370 for an hour after its transponder and Acars system ceased to transmit until it went beyond range while flying over Pulau Perak Island, steadily west toward the open (and largely radar-free) Indian Ocean at 30,000 feet. Ummm, with a nearly full load of fuel and a 7,000 mile range. Boy, that would certainly change the equation.
