Well, yesterday and today were fairly uneventful. I went to Iaido - TopicsExpress

Well, yesterday and today were fairly uneventful. I went to Iaido for an hour and some minutes to practice yesterday, and helped a newbie learn. I think it kind of bothers our instructor a bit when I keep moving around on the mat, but he recognizes that I am trying to become a mirror for newbies to follow on the techniques, and Jim is such a patient person, that he would never say if it bothered him or not. Yesterday it was with Colin that I stood in front of him so that he could follow my movements. Today we got a new student into Aikido, and I once again settled in front of him to allow him time to follow my movements in Iaido. I later apologized to Jim about moving on the mat so much, but like always, he said it was no problem. Then we learned a new way of taking away the bokken from someone in Aikido. A bit of a complicated movement, but it was fun. I can see if we do this a few more times, that I better get darn good at my Hiyaku Ukemi, because there will be little time to roll, and a lot less time to flip in place. It was funny Thursday night when Jim threw me. From the look on Colins face, he must of thought I was broken in several pieces by the sound of me crashing to the mat. Colin asked me if it hurt, and I said No not if you fall correctly, but if I had not fallen correctly...well I would have gotten up a lot slower thats for sure. Been spending a lot of time watching movies for this weekend. I wanted to come home and take a nap, but Michael talked me into going to town and getting the lumber for Lees garage. He lucked out, as I had intended to get Chocolate Thunder started this weekend to haul garbage, so I plugged it in earlier this week. Like always, that truck refuses to die, and it fired right up again after a 3 month non running tour. I will try to fire it up a bit more through winter just to keep it up. I need to go out and get the Gray Ghost running too, as I havent ran that since I parked it before winter. I need to take it to the dump too and empty the back end of it also. The way this winter has gone, I am thinking of going out and cutting some wood next weekend if its 0 or warmer. I think I can drop a few trees...but lets be real..It aint gonna happen. The wood stove seems to be running fairly consistent. I have about 1/3 of my second row of three left of my wood pile. I am guesstimating that at this rate, my wood pile may last me till mid February. After that it is back to a strictly oil diet for the rest of the winter. I may fire it up a bit using energy logs, but they are a bit expensive, so the oil becomes the major player at that point. As most of us who have lived in Alaska know, most of the coldest days of winter are gone by mid Feb, but sometimes it can drop into the -40s. Once March hits the weather tends to only dive into the -20s at the worst, and April is just mud. I have to remember to contact the WoodCutter and have him drop 5 cord of wood towards the end of February. I checked my mutual fund dividend disbursements, and I can say...Tax season should be a lot of fun trying to figure out that mess...Ugghhh. Those things went in all kinds of directions, Up, Down, Sideways, Plaid, Tree, Blue...Ugggghhh. Enough...
