Wellington College 1sts and 2nds battled it out today. In this sort of competition, there should be a clear difference, and today was no exception. The 2nd XI were rolled for 98 with Izak Lee and Rory McNay providing the only resistance with the bat. Bhavik Patel and Christian Martin were the destroyers for the 1st XI tacking 6 wickets for 33 runs between them, showing that there is some depth to the Wellington College bowling attack. Jakob Bhula ensured the 1sts got the job done with a solid 42no to close out the day. Hutt International would have felt they were a few runs short today, only reaching 169-9 off 50 overs against top of the table Silverstream. Rachin Ravindra scoring scored over half the teams total with an impressive 88. Ken Tuffin (10 overs 3 wickets 33 runs) and Ben Murrow (10 overs 2 wickets for 13 runs) were they key destroyers, setting up their team for a comfortable chase…. However it was not to be. Troy Johnson, must have taken exception to being run out for 0 and unleashed with the ball (6.4 overs 5 wickets for 5 runs) ripping through the stream middle order after Oliver Flemmer took care of the Stream openers. Silverstream all out for 58 … Premier 1 is still wide open! Scots have been looking for inspiration and they fond it today through Oli McMahon who scored a rapid 107 of 90. Scott Oldham added a solid 36 to set up a total of 222-6 off 50 overs. Tawa College may have thought they had a chance of running down the total after a solid middle order stand by Hamish Lockhart (64) and Bob Kortegast (29), but it was not to be. The Scots bowlers spearheaded by Doug Beattie (8 overs 3 wickets 24runs) managed to limit Tawa to 177 all out. Alex Ridley has reverted back to staring with the ball over the bat this week taking 3 for 18 off 8.4 overs. Daniel Pile opened the bowling at the other end and also took 3 wickets the Onslow openers set up the Co-Ed schools clash. Jack Griffiths produced a gritty 37 (106) and Matt Girvan contributed with 34, but that was about it for HVHS, ending up all out for 138. N Pile, Johnston and Henderson made short work of the total with Onslow cruising to 140-2 to claim the win with relative ease. Welcome back to the top of the table Onslow … albeit a 3 way tie.
