Welp, earlier this week my tablets screen started having issues where it was dim in a couple spots, so I checked settings and couldnt find the answer. I then proceeded to reboot my tablet and thats when all hell broke loose. No more lit screen. I could shine a flashlight at it in the dark and see what was on the screen, and the device still worked and accepted input, but I couldnt see anything very easily. Interestingly, I noticed about 3 weeks ago that the screen was having problems, but it wasnt dim, it was just slow to respond to waking up (the buttons would be lit well before the screen was). Anyway, Ill be shipping it to Samsung for warranty on Monday. Be warned folks--apparently this is a known problem with these tablets; online Internet forums say that the ribbon labelled LCD inside the device comes loose very easily if you drop it even a few inches off the ground or onto a surface.
