Welp, not exactly how I planned the weekend after my tonsillectomy! Friday went well, no problems with surgery but early Saturday morning I couldnt handle the pain meds, couldnt eat and was throwing up (doing exactly what the doc told me not to do - putting stress on the throat muscles!)...having Type 1 diabetes, a minor thing can always get a bit more complicated and it did! Made a trip to the ER where I was informed I was in Diabetic Ketoacidosis. The combination of everything going on with my body just made it tough to rebound. I was diagnosed at 21 and put on the pump at 24 and Ive never been in DKA nor in the hospital for any complication. So this rocked my world! I was kept several hours and they eventually sent me to ICU for further individualized monitoring. All the picks and pokes throughout the night made me even more empathetic to my dad. I was being tough like him ☺️...so Im still here, waiting for all the blood work to go back to normal...not exactly how we planned it, but Im taking the curve ball as best I can. So thankful for my loving family that has always helped me get through tough situations! And my dad too
