Went out today to assist and meet the homeless and I have to say - TopicsExpress

Went out today to assist and meet the homeless and I have to say the support that showed up was amazing. I didnt do a head count but there had to be over 30 people there helping out today. Im going to be working on a map for staging locations we can all utilize to connect with the homeless. We did meet many many new faces on the streets and Ill be bringing a notebook to track names, locations, and condition. One person that I met today was named Shirley she was in her 60s and had a cute dachshund keeping her company. She was evicted from her home after her roommate moved out leaving her not able to pay the rent. She makes about $750 a month on social security plus $34 a month for food stamps. (Id say something is wrong with those numbers.) Anyways she was hurting with back pain after numerous back surgeries. She mentioned having a boyfriend and said he was out trying to find work and wasnt sure when he was coming back under the bridge to be with her. I believe she was partially deaf and was dealing with lifelong speech disorder which would make it hard for her to hold a job. We talked for a good while and she and I asked Shirley how she was doing with the dog and she said it was getting hard on her to take care of him physically. She was wanting to give him to someone but in hopes of getting him back when she had a place of her own. I told her to think about it and if she still wanted to Id see that her dog could come live with me. Ill be checking on a house/apartment for her as well. So please say a prayer for Shirley and that we can find her and her pet a safe home. All in all the day was good. Glad to have seen so many people there. Hopefully by next week we can have game plans laid out to make the most impact possible. Thanks and God Bless everyone there today and to those who sent prayers. Thanks Jana for getting this photo!
