Went to a panel discussion on Black Relationships with my dear - TopicsExpress

Went to a panel discussion on Black Relationships with my dear friend & Sistren Shakina Chinedu yesterday. We so need more of such gatherings. It really highlighted some of our major issues...things that make you go "Hmmmmmmmmmmm!" At the same time, it gave us such great reminders of the great people we have amongst us. Afrikans committed to eachother & our community. Couples who have been married for decades. Brothers who attended with their wives & spoke so lovingly of commitment & shared what it takes to make our relationships work. One brother spoke of being with his wife for 39 years & he really nailed what commitment means as an Afrikan, not only to his Queen but to our community too. These family members came to support & guide those of us who ate single & perhaps struggling in terms of settling down with a committed partner, they could have stayed home. I observed that the wives of these brothers were radiant & sat back & gave their husbands the floor to speak mostly. I sensed no power struggles or egos pushing through. The men spoke of their wives support in giving them the space & strength to be men...no power struggle again. I tell you, those women exuded contentment & love. They all spoke of the challenges, it was not about yurugu romanticising at all, it was about loving each other in order to gain strength & support each other & raise families in a climate that goes all out to destroy us as Afrikans. I give thAnkhs for being in such a blessed loving company last night & to my Sistren Shakina Chinedu for inviting me. I also give thAnkhs to the organisers "FYV" Find Your Voice, Maximum RESPECT& LOVE 󾓑󾓑󾓑󾓑󾓑󾓑󾓑
