Went to see Dwayne Johnsons Hercules and it was surprisingly good. They did a Troy on it. That is, the portrayed Hercules the Demi-god as a construct of his legend and a mere mortal, much as Brad Pitt played the legendary Achilles. Hercules the Man-God turns out to be larger than life, but only due to his good PR. His legend is helped along by five compatriots, his nephew, Ian McShane a lethal soothsayer, a bow wielding amazon Ingrid Berdal, Rufus Sewell (the evil Southern Vampire in Abe Lincoln Vampire Killer), Aksel Hennie a mute berserker. Its a good movie, better than 300 or its lame sequel, and better than most of the sword as shield action movies of late. The Gods dont make an appearance in this one, it strictly mano-a-mano. John Hurt does a good turn as the King whose kingdom Hercules comes to help save.
