Were getting ready for summer and recruiting crew! ~~~~ Mate/Deckhand, F/V Erica Lee Mates aboard the Erica Lee have dual responsibility for the safe operation of the vessel and the best possible experience of kids onboard enrolled in education programs, and therefore must be flexible and positively willing to serve multiple roles depending on the flow of the day. Above all else, the First Mate must be focused on the safety and happiness of kids, and serve in direct support of the captain. The First Mate shall collaborate with the captain on the plans for the day, mentor deckhands, apprentices and kids onboard, serve as helmsman as needed, and contribute to onboard educational opportunities as they arise. Additional shipboard duties include, but are not limited to: managing all fishing, sampling and cleaning equipment and supplies, gathering and preparing bait and tackle, fish storage and cleaning, marine sampling equipment deployment and retrieval, and seamanship duties including handling dock lines, performing safety drills, and positively responding to requests from the captain. Essential Qualifications: • Must be Age 21 or older • Must agree to pre-employment and random drug testing • Significant sea time, local coastal waters preferred. Merchant Mariner’s licensure a plus. • Marine science or education coursework, college degree or significant related life experience • Wilderness First Aid & CPR certification or willingness to become certified at your expense.
