Were going to set the standard for the rest of the country on coal ash....Were going to, in a comprehensive way.-Sen. Tom Apodaca, Henderdersonville Times-News, June 17, 2014 Despite the Dan River spill and a promise to pass a comprehensive coal ash bill, the North Carolina legislature went home last week having failed to pass any coal ash bill. The legislature reconvenes next Thursday for two days, however, and the bill is likely to come back up. House and Senate negotiators continue to talk, so now is the time to let them know we want a strong coal ash bill that cleans up the states coal ash pollution and protects all North Carolina citizens. Ask Senate leaders, including Henderson County Senator Tom Apodaca, to do what they pledged months ago-pass a comprehensive coal ash bill that protects North Carolina citizens and our waterways. Thank House negotiators, led by Henderson County Rep. Chuck McGrady, for holding firm on strong groundwater protections.
