Were honored to announce that Safe Horizon has been awarded a series of 4 new grants from the Office on Violence Against Women (part of The United States Department of Justice). These multi-year grants provide funding for our court-based domestic violence programs, including free legal assistance, supervised visitation with non-custodial parents for children who have witnessed domestic violence, and our coordinated response project with law enforcement in The Bronx. Also included is an important grant establishing a demonstration project in Brooklyn (one of just four such awards nationwide), where we will use the latest research to identify domestic violence victims facing a high level of danger, and work with law enforcement to prevent domestic violence homicides. Thank you to our partners at the Kings County District Attorney’s Office and the Bronx Borough President’s office. Most of all, thank you to the DOJ for prioritizing the fight against domestic violence and for recognizing Safe Horizons hard work and experience in that struggle.
