Were investigating the death of 26 year old Jake Mark Sweeney from Caerphilly following an assault which took place outside the Irish Tymes pub on Station Terrace, Caerphilly in the early hours of Sunday 24th August. Jake was taken to the University Hospital of Wales with a serious head injury following the assault, and sadly passed away yesterday afternoon, Thursday 28th August. The 23 year old man from Caerphilly who was originally arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent and released on police bail pending further enquiries, has been re-arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in police custody. Two further men, both aged 21 from Caerphilly, were arrested on suspicion of affray and have been released on police bail pending further enquiries. DCI Roger Fortey leading the investigation said; “This is an extremely tragic incident that has resulted in the loss of a young man’s life. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time. “We are keen to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of the Irish Tymes pub between 1-2am on Sunday 24th August, you may have information that could assist.
