Were supporting Age UKs petition to protect the human rights of older people who receive care services. Imagine two people who live next to each other in a care home – one pays for their own care, the other’s is arranged by their council. Did you know that there is a loophole that means that only one of these people has full protection of the law from abuse and neglect? There is currently a loophole that means that anyone who pays for their own residential care or receives care in their own home is not directly covered by the Human Rights Act. This means if they experience abuse or neglect, they have fewer rights. The Care Bill could change this, but the UK Government is trying to remove the clause that would close this loophole.
