West Coast EMS Memorial Bike ride day 3 is in the books. 67 miles, 3356 feet of climbing, 7631 feet of descent. started the day at 6300 feet, climbed to 7337 feet then descended to 2136 feet. We had a moving ceremony at the Lake Valley Fire Department with the father, wife, and 2 small sons of one of the honorees. The lunch stop was at the south end of the King fire, which has burned over 87,000 acres (186 square miles) For the east coast folks, imagine a fire consuming all of Philadelphia and most of the immediate suburbs. While there, we met a woman and her husband whose 23 year old son went for a hike in June and has never returned and whose house was destroyed by the fire. We offered her lunch and said we would look out for her son. We finished the ride riding down the Pony Express Trail past some very pretty scenery and a number of El Dorado County wineries. Tomorrow we continue our downhill trek through Sacramento to Davis - a flat ride after the first 20 miles.
