West McLean Insurance has learned that due to the prolonged subzero ambient temperatures, the frost line in much of ND has moved down to 7 foot versus the 6 foot traditionally calculated for protection of freezing of water lines. The report indicates it will take a full month before the frost has moved past the danger point. Accordingly, rural water cooperatives are recommending their customers leave a water line open and dripping into a drain or sink in the home to keep those lines from freezing and / or bursting. West McLean Insurance is recommending the same safety measures for all of our policyholders and members.
