West Palm Beach , December 20, 2014 – The Haitian American Nursing Organization and Allied Hanoa ,Volunteers physician Nursing students, Everyone, Embracing Diversity and Multicultural , have partnered with the Health Fair Florida to offer our second Annual community outreach initiative Health Fair to the underserved migrant/seasonal farm working population of Belle Glade The Doctors and Nurses will be on hand to provide basic health screening services to the group at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 25 . 2015 at Glades Central High School 1001 SW Ave East, Belle Glade, FL 33430, United States The event is free and open to the public. The purpose of this Health Fair t- project is to bring health information, general screening, awareness, prevention and education to this minority population on a yearly basis. This includes – among others –providing them with facts about the health risks they face while handling pesticides at work and how to prevent dangerous exposures to their family members, as well as the importance of proper dental hygiene and nutrition. The Doctors and Nurses will also be offering eye exams and measuring basic vital signs like blood pressure, respiratory rate, pulse rate, temperature, cholesterol levels and blood glucose readings in an effort to identify the prevalence of hypertension, hyperlipidemia and diabetes. The Health fair will also provide guidance from mentors to farm worker students who are interested in The OBAMACARE healthcare programs. Exercise demonstrations, basic first-aid lessons, and physical evaluations of the pediatric population Entertainment including a bounce house, music by a DJ, and face painting will also be offered. Refreshments and healthy snacks will be available. According to the most recent Labor Department’s Agricultural Workers Survey data, 43% of farmworkers interviewed had not used any healthcare services in the U.S. in the last two years. Although medical services are available in this minority community, they are not always used for fear of immigration issues or lack of knowledge of existing asymptomatic conditions. By offering basic dental hygiene services, eye exams, and vital sign readings, these workers will have a jumpstart into improving their current health status, and be able to do follow-up care.
