Joey Carma was selected by his coach and club committee for the exceptional effort he put into the game throughout the year. The following is part of the short talk delivered to the troops to explain the background of the award; The Ambrose Thomas award was started by my father in the late eighties for the Avoca Beach Rugby Union Club on the Central Coast, as an encouragement to promote Rugby in the junior grades, for you, the juniors, are the future of our game. It may not mean much to others but you, Joey Carma, are now one of select few to receive this award and you can judge for yourself what provincial juniors players are capable of by the achievements of some of your fellow recipients of the Ambrose Thomas award; - Matt Hodgson played for Waratahs , Brumbies, Force & finally Wallabies. -Jesse Parahi played for Brumbies and Australian 7s. -Trent Dyer plays for Sydney uni . Also played Australian 7s. -Jeremy Wheeler played country under 16s. Rugby is a game you’ll find where ever you travel and you’ll be welcomed to play in some of the most unexpected places regardless of skill or condition.
