Western Australia -- Severe Weather Warning -- UPDATE Severe Weather Warning for destructive winds, damaging winds and abnormally high tides for people in the Central West, Lower West, South West, South Coastal, South East Coastal, Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt forecast districts Issued at 10:49 am WST on Sunday 22 September 2013. For people in parts of WA southwest of a line from Jurien Bay to Norseman to Israelite Bay. This includes people in, near or between the following towns: Jurien Bay, York, Bunbury, Busselton, Margaret River, Bridgetown, Narrogin, Katanning, Albany, Esperance, Mandurah and the Perth metropolitan area. Weather Situation A deep low and associated strong cold front is moving across southern parts of the state this morning. Conditions should ease for a period during this afternoon, before a second strong cold front moves over the southwest late this evening and during Monday. For people in an area south of a line Bremer Bay to Lake King to Israelite Bay from now until about 2pm: The first cold front is expected to produce WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS to 100 kilometres per hour that could result in DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. In isolated areas DANGEROUS GUSTS in excess of 125 kilometres per hour could cause SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OR DESTRUCTION TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. Conditions will ease from the west during the day. For people in an area southwest of Perth to Katanning to Albany this evening and extending to areas south of a line from Jurien Bay to Norseman to Israelite Bay overnight: The second cold front is expected to produce WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS to 100 kilometres per hour that could result in DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. WIDESPREAD DANGEROUS GUSTS in excess of 125 kilometres per hour could cause SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OR DESTRUCTION TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. HIGHER THAN NORMAL TIDES may cause FLOODING OF LOW-LYING COASTAL AREAS between Perth and Esperance. DANGEROUS SURF CONDITIONS are likely which could cause SIGNIFICANT BEACH EROSION. The following wind gusts have been recorded: 107 kilometres per hour at Rottnest Island at 2:33am. 98 kilometres per hour at Cape Leeuwin at 1:15am. 98 kilometres per hour at Ocean Reef at 2:52am. 93 kilometres per hour at Garden Island at 2:43am. 81 kilometres per hour at Esperance Airport at 9:48am. People in the southwest of WA typically experience cold fronts as windy as these about twice a year. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows. Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning. If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water. Do not drive into water of unknown depth and current. Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris. If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500. The next warning will be issued by 1:45 pm WST Sunday.
