Western District Officer Marshall Titus received a lifesaving award at a ceremony held at the Western District Office today. Here is the story for which he received this award. On August 15, 2013, Officer Marshall Titus responded to the call of an injured child. Upon arrival, he found a 9-year-old boy whose feet had been severed by a train he was playing near. Officer Titus observed that the child’s right leg was bleeding profusely. He applied a tourniquet to the boy’s right thigh to stop the bleeding. Medics soon arrived and transported the child to Regions Hospital. Officer Titus’ ability to think calmly, keep the injured child calm and render immediate aid to him undoubtedly helped to save the child’s life. Both the medics and the emergency room staff made comments to other officers that these actions were lifesaving. Officer Titus demonstrated great courage and determination at a truly horrific scene. Phenomenal work by one of the officers who patrol your streets!
