Westward from Little Rock: The Early Roads of Pulaski County Please join the Pulaski County Historical Society this Sunday, September 8, 2013, at the Old State House Museum for refreshments at 2:00 p.m. and a program at 2:30. Michael Hood, civil engineering manager for the City of Little Rock Public Works Department, will present “Westward from Little Rock: The Early Roads of Pulaski County.” Since the early nineteenth century, the roads through Pulaski County have changed dramatically in location, importance, and method of construction. Early roads, such as the Military Road, River Road, Perryville Road, Mt. Ida Road, and the Upper Hot Springs Highway, travelled through places that, in some cases, are now forgotten. Using a series of maps and photos, Hood promises to deliver interesting information about these historic roadways and the communities along them. He will also discuss the origin of major road names like Asher, Kavanaugh, Cantrell, Kanis, Wright, and Hinson.
