Wetlands, During Nobles court on Saturday (while things were - TopicsExpress

Wetlands, During Nobles court on Saturday (while things were still my problem) there was a great deal of discussion regarding the provincial size known as Grand Duchy within our corpora. The Wetlands has not had a Grand Duchy since the glory days of Stormwall, when they were pulling the numbers years and years ago. As a result this has not been a topic of discussion until we begin to see Ironwood about to top that scale, and likely within the next year. This is in no way intended to harshly impact the populace of Ironwood. Their achievement in raising their numbers has been truly inspiring, and I hope they continue to grow. They are, without question, the largest park with the Wetlands and it needs to be celebrated. The Corpora may not be revised until Kingdom Quals, which will be held months out from now, but if there is a change to be made of this major degree I believe it is best to begin discussions long in advance to come up with the right proposal (if indeed the Kingdom feels one needs to be made at all). Right now, the Amtgard standard group higher than a Duchy is generally known as a Principality (synonymous with the term Grand Duchy and some Principalities have actually preferred the term Grand Duchy for their own use in lieu of Principality). These groups are generally collections of provinces that, together, for what is essentially a Kingdom that is training to one day split off from their parent Kingdom and form a new group entirely. They have their very own category within the ORK, and their attendance is calculated separately. A great view of a Principality working towards splitting off from their parent Kingdom is the Principality of Polaris. The idea being that once one of the collections of parks petitions for kingdom status and meets the Circle of Monarchs definition of a Kingdom a vote is held to promote them to full kingdom. Exactly this took place in recent history when the Kingdom of Westmarch was officially recognized as a Kingdom by the Circle of Monarchs. As it stands, our Corporas definition of a Grand Duchy is not in line with the rest of Amtgard, and I believe it is something that needs to be addressed. I do not feel the appropriate response is to strike Grand Duchy from the corpora, nor do I feel it is appropriate to allow it to stand as it currently is written. I propose that we change our term Grand Duchy to Principality and bring it in line with the more typical definition of a Principality found in the other Kingdoms of Amtgard. This poses additional questions largely because it would essentially add a full new section to the Corpora. What is the typical definition of a Principality? How would we appropriately word it in our Corpora?
