Weve now heard various Presidents, Prime Ministers, foreign ministers and the like say that the decision is one for us but theyd rather we voted No. I dont doubt that. What good will Scottish independence do the US, or Australia, or Canada? Why would the governments of those countries not want to do or say something that wont cost them anything and might help the UK government persuade us to vote No? Thats not really the test, however. Brutally but frankly and honestly put, the test is whats good for Scotland, not Belgium nor even the United States. Im pretty sure theyll accept the result. And in any event, heres a great little film that shows us the other side of the coin. Not what here-today-gone-tomorrow foreign ministers say, in carefully nuanced terms having weighed up their national self-interests. But what millions of real, ordinary people in far flung places across the globe really think of the decision we face. They realise whats at stake, for them as well as for us, and theyre willing us on. The world really is watching us. And its on our side.
