We’ve been invited to the 100 year anniversary of the great dancer and friend Marc Platt. You don’t know who Marc Platt is. Well let me tell you. Marc Platt was one of the original members of the Ballet de Monte Carlo who performed under the name of Platoff. He appeared in Broadway musicals in 1935 including “Jubilee”. Marc danced the role of Chalmers/Dream Curly in the original 1943 production of “Oklahoma”. He also appeared in the film version of “Oklahoma” (that is where I first met him in Hollywood). He was in the dancing dream sequence pus had a speaking role as one of Curly’s cowboy friends. He was the cowboy friend who buys Curly’s saddle for the $10 at the auction and who comments that the year before Ado Annie’s sweet potato pie gave him a “three day bellyache”. Marc also was the fourth brother in the MGM film “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers” and he danced with Rita Hayworth in the Columbia film “Tonight and Every Night”. After he stopped dancing he ran the Radio City Music Hall Ballet for several years and then went into full time teaching. In 2000 he was presented with the Nijinsky Award at the Ballet Russe Reunion. He currently resides in a rest home in Marin County.
