We’ve been reliably informed today that the two men responsible for striking Beach Rd bike riders with a length of PVC last year have appeared before court, and been sent packing with Community Corrections Orders (CCO). The men caused serious injuries with their actions and put lives at risk. Victoria Police did a great job investigating and charging the two, so the decision from Moorabbin Magistrates Court is disappointing in terms of the message it sends to the community. While a CCO is far from a slap on the wrist, this incident generated considerable community interest and a heightened level of anxiety within the cycling community. This case would provide a great opportunity for the justice system to give an understanding of what the sentence actually involves, and how it came to that conclusion. theage.au/victoria/cyclists-allegedly-assaulted-on-beach-road-20131228-300kp.html
