But one who was sanctified by the blood of Christ may nevertheless go to hell; may fall under that fiery indignation which shall for ever devour the adversaries. (10:297)" -The Works of John Wesley (Baker Book House, Grand Rapids, MI (1996) This view of John Wesley on the atonement that says Jesus died for the sins of people in hell is one of the big reasons I do not commend most of his teaching to my friends. This is a very damaging and false doctrine to teach that those who God has justified MAY NOT be raised up on the last day. To be sure, if one is born again they will persevere in the faith and grow in holiness. If they fall away (which many who profess Christ do), they show that they were never known by Christ. It is a terrible thing for Wesley to say that the blood of Christ could potentially fail for everyone who is redeemed since he believes that all who are redeemed can potentially fall away. I believe Scripture clearly teaches that all those who have been saved by the blood of Christ will be sealed by the Holy Spirit and raised up on the last day. Those who have been justified are also sanctified. Those who are sanctified are also glorified on the last day when Christ returns and final judgment is executed.
