What Do You Call Peace? Mid-Islanders for Justice and Peace in the Middle East and the Social Justice and Outreach Committee of Duncan United Church have sponsored a visit by Alison Weir who is selling her book that claims Israel is an illegal state and that the U.S. was somehow duped into getting the U.N. to recognize the state of Israel. I wonder if this woman knows that the first country to cast its vote of Israel de jure (a legal fact of being a nation), at the U.N. when Israel was accepted as a nation, was the Soviet Union? The Security Council passed it 5 to 1. Today 160 countries (83% of the U.N.) recognize the sovereignty of Israel. So she obviously has an anti-Semitic agenda to believe that Israel is an illegal state. She claims to want peace in the Middle-East but she refuses to see that Hamas doesn’t want “Peace” or the re-establishment of the pre-1967 borders. They want the annihilation of Israel, and all Jews and Christians. The MIJPME, the SJOC of Duncan United Church and Alison Weir don’t understand the difference between the Hebrew word “Shalom” and the Arabic word “Salam”. Shalom is the peace that God wishes for everyone to enjoy. It comes from Him and originates in Heaven. It is His blessing that He wants to give the world. Salam is a manmade conditional peace that is offered by a victor as an option to their foe who has decided to submit to the rules according to the authority of their conquerors. Does anyone remember the pacifist slogan of the communist sympathizers who believed, “Better Red than dead!”? I still find it hard to believe that people fell for that. Just look at how that has worked out. It is the same thing that Muslims are saying, “Convert to Islam and you get to live, or else you die.” So where is the peace in the lives of Muslims? They even fight among themselves when one group considers that another group isn’t militant enough as we see all over the “Muslim World”. I know, some will argue that it has been the same in the “Christian World” but they ignore the fact that those people were controlled by leaders who only called themselves Christians and used their power for their own glory and kept the truth of God’s Word from the common people. That’s why it was called the “Dark Ages”. It was control through ignorance and I believe that Alison Weir, the MIJPME and the SJOC of Duncan United Church are ignorant of the truth. Alison says, “exposing the truth is the best and only hope for justice and, therefore, peace.” Well let’s look at some truth. It is a matter of public record that during activity at Gaza Strip Land Crossings on July 15th, 71 trucks of food and general supplies, 151 tons of gas, and 598,109 litres of fuels were sent into Gaza. As rockets fell on Israel the IDF kept the border crossing to Gaza open. On July 15th Israel suspended strikes in Gaza for 6 hours. In that time Hamas fired 50 rockets at Israel. On July 17th Israel agreed to a U.N. request for a humanitarian window in Gaza. Hamas continued firing from Gaza. On July 20th Israel agreed to a Red Cross request for a ceasefire in Shuja’iya. Hamas continued firing from Shuja’iya. On July 26th Israel agreed to a Humanitarian window in Gaza. Hamas fired more than 6 rockets at Israel. In 17 days, over 2,350 rockets were fired by Palestinian terrorists from Gaza. 2,350 attempts to kill Israelis. Back in November 2012 I took part in a conference call with David Siegel, the Consul General of Israel. Prior to the call I was informed on Thursday, the 15th of November, 2012 of the following: • In the week preceding the launch of Wednesdays operation, over 120 missiles were fired from Gaza into southern Israel. • Since the beginning of 2012, over 760 missiles have been fired from Gaza into Israels southern communities. • Since Israel launched this operation Wednesday, an additional 245 missiles have been fired into Israel, killing three Israelis and injuring many more. • These missiles target Israeli civilians, and have forced over one million Israelis into bomb shelters. Every nation on earth has the right to defend its citizens from attacks. Most nations would have taken action after one or two missiles were fired into their territory. Israel has once again exercised enormous restraint and waited until over 760 rockets had been fired into its territory before launching Operation Pillar of Defense. During the call on Friday the 16th I was informed that in the last 3 days, 600 rockets were fired by Hamas into Israel. - 760 since the start a week ago (up to Thursday morning) - 200 a day - 20 per hour - They were specifically launched into rush hour traffic (15 seconds warning). - There actually was 100% support for Israel from the UN Security Council. - Iron Dome on Defense had shot down 150 rockets aimed at vital civilian areas. Israel’s surgical retaliation air strikes last Wednesday killed the leader of the Hamas terrorists. - Media in Gaza were misled by Hamas. - They were using pictures of wounded civilians provided from Hamas. - Actually they were pictures from Syria’s civil war showing bodies of civilians, from results of the attacks of the government forces against the rebels there in Syria. - An Israeli F-16 pilot found a rocket launch site. He was about to fire a missile that was locked on to it when the pilot saw that they were set up in the middle of a play area full of children. He aborted the launch allowing the launch site to continue to function. Israel drops leaflets saying that they are going to strike a given target. There is no moral equivalency. I can’t help but think of the fact that Israel waited until 750 rockets were launched before retaliating. How long did the U.S. wait during the Cuban Missile Crisis? With the Russians setting up nuclear missiles in Cuba, the U.S. Navy surrounded Cuba. One un-armed reconnaissance aircraft was shot down over Cuba and the U.S. Armed Forces were mobilized. They were in the air on their way to invade Cuba when Russia finally backed down. Do you recall that during the first Gulf war, Israel was being hit by SCUD missiles from Iraq and Israel complied with the request from the U.S. to not retaliate? Who was the aggressor in that 2012 middle-east crisis? - Rockets hit a three-story apartment in Israel and killed a mother of three (the seriously wounded father woke up after surgery an hour before his wife was going to be buried). - UNRRA (United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration) uses a systematic attempt to strip Israel of their defense. In 2005 Israel left Gaza. - High tech farming and infrastructure was left for the Palestinians to use. - Hamas turned it into rocket sites. - As of November 2012 over 12,000 (soon became 13,000) rockets had been fired at Israel since 2005. - They have built tunnels under the border from which to launch sneak attacks. - On the Friday before the conference call Hamas attackers came out of the tunnels and fired at Israel’s tanks that were sitting in their own Israeli land guarding their own border. - Israel finally retaliated. Now, in 2014 Hamas used their tunnels to kidnap and kill three Israeli teens and started it all up again. Alison Weir, a so-called peace activist, needs to hear what Golda Meir said in 1957. “Peace will come when the Arabs will love their children more than they hate Israel.”
