What I gleaned from reading this book: The DAR served as nurses and physicians during the Spanish American War, drove ambulances, sent Xmas gifts to soldiers, helped rebuild a french village and sponsor 2,000 orphans after WWI, were taken prisoner during WW2 for relief efforts, gave medals to soldiers serving in Vietnam, one of the only organizations in America to recognize soldiers in that era, produced pamphlets to new citizens in foreign languages until requested to stop, sponsored & supported refugees at Ellis & Angel Islands. History. Education. Patriotism. Proud to be a DAR member today!
