What If There Were No LRCP? Every single dog who has come into the LRCP rescue system has a back story. They came from somewhere--to somewhere--to LRCP--to their forever home. Some were Owner Give Ups (OGUs). Those reasons are as varied as the Labs themselves. Some were pulled from shelters -- their history unknown or unidentified. Some were special needs. Some needed critical care. Some have ongoing medical needs. Some were dumped along the side of the road--or in a landfill. Some are black, or chocolate, or yellow. They are young, teens, seniors and bonded. They all are LRCP family. But what if? Yes, what if, there were no LRCP? How many of us would be without our beloved Lab family members? I know I certainly would. All my adoptees were/are “seniors and specials.” They most likely would never have made it to any forever home at all and would be yet another casualty of overpopulated shelters. I count myself extremely blessed, first, to have found 4 amazing Labs through LRCP. And, to also be able to volunteer in helping whenever and however I can. This is the purpose of this note. LRCP needs funds – a lot of funds – to be able to do what they do – in an amazingly compassionate way. They need us to step up and help, if, and as best we can. One time donations are great. Ongoing monthly donations help in long term planning. Did you know that a $5 monthly donation is $60 total a year and this equals an initial vet visit for only one Lab who enters the system? Yes, just one (and LRCP generally rescues over 1,000 Labs a year)! Quincy, Gabby Gracie and I have committed to a $30 monthly donation for starters. That is $360 for the year 2015. We are going to “fund” this by giving up 1 diet coke per day for the year. We are issuing a “challenge” to at least 24 others to make a monthly commitment of any amount that works for you over the 12 Days of Christmas (that actually run from 12/25 thru 1/5). Just give up something that equals an extra $1 per day for 2015 and translate that into a monthly donation to LRCP.
