What? It’s Friday? You mean, Thursday has come and gone and with no PCD new CD release post!? Hey, we’re all a little late for some reason or another! PCD says “Sorry about that!” for being a day late – having said that, it was fairly uneventful week for new music, but let’s dive in anyway, shall we: After dropping a “sampler” four song EP earlier this year and recruiting Staind’s Mike Mushok to play guitar, former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted takes the lead with his new band, the self-named Newsted, to give us their first full-length release “Heavy Metal Music”. The aptly titled album lives up to the name with aggressive, driving, yet basic “old school” feeling heavy metal. If you’re a fan of bands such as Testament, Motorhead and “mid-years” Metallica, then this 11 track album is sure to get your fist pumping and your head banging like days of old! Despite losing lead singer Krysta Cameron, who left the group last year, experimental metal group Iwrestledabearonce press on with their third album “Late For Nothing”. With new singer Courtney LaPlante competently filling the vacancy left by the departed Cameron, the innovative metalcore band continues with their brave yet superb use of experimental sounds, using anything they could possibly think of to mix in with this exciting album, which is a bit darker than previous releases. In 2011, the Civil Wars exploded onto the music scene with their debut album “Barton Hollow”, which landed in the U.S. top 10, went gold, and garnered the band three grammy awards. The band then went on what turned out to be a grueling tour schedule, and a tremendous workload to make their next piece of work live up to their debut. The band’s second album “The Civil Wars” comes amidst news of the band breaking up and calling it quits for good, after announcing a “hiatus” in November of 2012. It’s a shame, because this was a band that could have “done it all”, and this somewhat “unfinished” sophomore album shows that with great and immediate success, comes a workload that can make many artists crumble under the load. That’s all this week kids!! See ya next time! [We at PCD realize that there are literally DOZENS of new releases every week in various genres. We try to highlight five "newsworthy", anticipated, interesting, etc. releases, while encouraging you to check out what else is out there!] See you next week PCD Universe!
