What J.C. Penny, the Clintons, and the minimum wage fight vs. - TopicsExpress

What J.C. Penny, the Clintons, and the minimum wage fight vs. poverty have in common? This is my own analysis I thought Id share with my friends. Its a short read. You may be aware that J.C. Penny ousted their former CEO Rob Johnson when he adopted a new policy of everyday low prices instead of the usual retail approach of periodic sales promotions. Pennys sales took a nosedive because consumers respond better to sales stimulus than everyday low prices even if the latter is in their long-term better interest. Sales have since bounce back when Pennys reverted to the stimulus-driven sales model. In a similar fashion, Hillary Clinton showed her political savvy when she prevented a proposal during Pres. Clintons Presidency from within the Clinton administration itself that would have indexed the minimum wage to inflation (much like Nixon signed into law indexing social security benefits to inflation). This new law would have been one of the most successful pieces of progressive economic legislation since social security itself and could have been passed Congress. But Hillary said NO because the Democrats need the faux issue of the minimum wage fight every 2 years to rally support of the progressive base (Hillary said so during cabinet meetings). In other words, Hillary purposefully prevented what one could consider the panacea of the minimum wage policy fight (by indexing it) in exchange for having an everlasting platform to generate progressive votes. Why is this similar to J.C. Penny? Hillary may be heartless but she is right on human behavior. Humans react to stimulus, just like consumers do to retail sales. J.C. Pennys sales experiment shows us why the retail industry needs to bombard us with advertisements to elicit our stimulus-driven reactions. Similarly, Hillary wanted progressive voters to react every 2 years and vote for the fight against raising the minimum wage. Democrats need the minimum wage battle to be an unending struggle, keeping those in poverty forever in economic chains so as to win their vote.
