What The Hell Do Palestinians Want : Palestinians have just refused to recognize Israel as a Jewish state once again? They now say settlements that do not include much of the West Bank landscape would bar them from establishing a contiguous state. But if they have a right to return to Israel, why dont Israelis have a right to their Jewish settlements in Palestine? It sounds as though the Palestinians want their cake and they want to eat it too - or another way of putting it is that they want Israel to be part of Palestine. The Israelis can never agree to the right of return of Palestinian refugees without jeopardizing their sovereignty, and Abbas knows this. The Palestinians are negotiating in bad faith. Of course when you go into negotiations demanding that which the other side can never accept it is acting in bad faith. Abbas wants a right of return for 4 million which is like saying Jewish Israel would extinguish itself if it agreed, and similarly expects Israel to accept a militarized Palestinian state without Israeli security monitoring, which would be suicide of a different kind. I wonder.
