What a day. After work, late this afternoon, I was grinding stumps - TopicsExpress

What a day. After work, late this afternoon, I was grinding stumps for some folks and I was almost finished and the belts flew off. Made a mess of the machine. I was trying to get it fixed and the gentleman got home and came out to take a look at it. He said he thought he could help me fix it and to bring it into his garage. He had more tools and equipment than I could fathom. Everytime he brought another tool out to use, I had to ask what the thing was called!!! He spent AT LEAST 3 hours working on it. He tapped new holes in a few places and put new bolts and washers in it, took off a pulley and realigned it, attached the ground wire to the battery in a better spot, showed me how to move the grinding wheel back so I could use shorter belts which would be more efficient, put set screws in it where they were missing, and cleaned all the sawdust and dirt off of it so everything would bolt back together without any junk in the way. He even checked the air in the tires and aired them up to the proper pressure. Awesome. Absolutely awesome. And on top of that, he STILL wanted to pay me for the stump grinding!!! I said NO WAY!!! If I had paid someone to do all that work, there is no telling how much it would have cost. Much more than I would have earned from the stump grinding. It was interesting to watch what he did. I finally asked him what he did for a living as it was obvious he was some sort of a mechanic or similar. He was a Tool and Die Engineer for GM. For some reason, that doesnt surprise me. I bet he is highly valued there. I know I value him highly!!! Thanks Jim Catron. I really appreciate your help.
