What a day. Earlier this afternoon I heard this weird noise in the laundry room and got up to check, and Thyme went bolting past me out of there with his tail all poofed up. I walked around but couldnt find the problem; the noise had stopped and I didnt see or hear anything wrong. I found Thyme and got him calmed down, and forgot about it. Luckily it was just half an hour later that I left to pick up Taylor from school and heard this gurgling noise outside--sure enough, a pipe had burst in the crawlspace under the den (its an addition and doesnt have basement under it like the rest of the house) and water was GUSHING out of the vent. I texted Joe about it since I had to leave to get Tay to her orthodontist appointment, and he found that it was the pipe leading to the outside spigot. He turned that valve off and had me go borrow a shop-vac from his brother, who is a contractor and was working a job not too far away. Get it home, climb up on the washer to look in the crawlspace only to discover that theres so much crap in there--old insulation, furnace filters, bricks, chunks of mortar, etc--that I cant tell if theres water in there or not. Kneeling on the hard washer caused agonizing pain to shoot up from my bad knees and I had to get down before I was able to do anything other than stuff an old pillow back in there. Itll be Joes turn to look in there when he gets home from taking Taylor to archery practice. The only good thing to come out of there is that I found a set of my GOOD sheets and one of my hoodies stuffed in there, and rescued them. They werent anywhere near any of the insulation and appear to be fine, not even watermarked. Theyre in the washer now, and I pulled out some old clothes we can use to stuff the hole with until we go to Home Depot and get some real insulation. Theres also no leakage in the house around the foundation, which is a relief. The really bad thing to come out of it was that kneeling on the washer caused both of my knees to seize up, and when I got down I fell and cracked them both on the cement floor. Popped a Meloxicam and am going to be on the couch with ice packs on them until dinners ready. So, how was YOUR day?
