What a day. What a week. This past Saturday marked the seven year anniversary of the organization I have grown to love. It also marked my last day as the Program Manager at a place I considered my second home with the people who have become part of my family. I have spent the past four and a half year employed by one of the most amazing art centers I have had the privilege of experiencing. The Morgan Conservatory is more than just a place, more than just an assortment of equipment, more than the work that hangs on the wall. To me (and I have learned over time that to others) the Morgan is a community. It is a place you find a spark of ingenuity, experienced hands willing to share, a safe place where you can create, experiment, fail and succeed. It has been an honor to be part of the growth of this organization. I am proud to continue to contribute to the Morgan as a programming committee member and cant wait to see what the future holds for this organization. Today, I made the transition to a new career path. I am now officially the Lead Artist Educator with Progressive Arts Alliance. I have taught with PAA for over four years and have seen how one organization can have a profound impact on an individual student, on a school and on a community. Teaching grounds me. It keeps me on my toes, requires me to think in creative ways and challenges me constantly. I feel so incredibly privileged to have the opportunity to work with so many students in Cleveland. Knowing part of what I do will give students access to technology they may not have ever experienced, an opportunity to hone skill sets they may not have realized they had and provide a chance to truly question what is around them as they learn who they are is humbling. A few weeks ago I was trying to sleep and this change in my life was starting to settle in. For the first time since college (and maybe my work on the election) I felt something in my stomach. The feeling was tied to the thought that in front of me is an opportunity to make a significant impact on the world around me. I cant thank PAA enough for providing this opportunity. I look forward to dedicating myself fully, applying what I have already learned and continuing to grow. Let the next adventure begin.
