What a fantastic time we had at the Silk106.9 Local Hero Awards - TopicsExpress

What a fantastic time we had at the Silk106.9 Local Hero Awards last Friday! We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to Midge Barber from Macclesfield who was honoured Volunteer of the year for her outstanding hard work for the East Cheshire Hospice. Her relentless effort, ambition & allegiance to caring for those she serves…patients & families has to be commended. It was lovely to meet Midge & her husband Doug last Friday, and indeed Paul and Sue who had also nominated Midge for the award. Midge, a grandmother of 4, and married for 21 years very modestly explained to me on the night just a snippet of her day to day duties from fundraising to grief counselling & providing support for people living with life limiting illnesses & their families. She is also actively involved in doing Talking Newspapers for the Blind and partially sighted people who dont have this opportunity to see the printed word which is something a lot of us take for granted. And it doesnt stop there....Midge is also passionately involved with the The IAM, the UK’s leading independent road safety charity, who through one-one guidance support and represent motorists, motorcyclists and cyclists through practical driving and riding programmes and urge all road users to act more responsibly and safely. Once again we would like to express over congratulations to Midge for all of your hard work and dedication to such a great & worthy cause! You deserve it! Heres a few pictures of the night...
