What a fearful thing it will be when sinners face God’s Law. It cries out for justice; it has no mercy. It demands, “The soul that sins shall die!” But the Judge who rules can, at His own discretion, administer the spirit of the Law, and its spirit says that mercy rejoices over judgment—God is rich in mercy to all who call upon Him. The letter kills, but the Spirit brings life. God would rather acquit the criminal from the courtroom . . . and He can do so because of Calvary. A. N.
