What a great Saturday to begin my 2015! This morning I was representing IMARET for a meeting with architect & engineers for a project called East Coast Housing Relief. The architect is Mr Ng Sensak, based in Bangsar. Among his projects are various weekend retreat houses in Klang Valley notably Sekeping Serendah, Sekeping Tenggiri & a public library. While the engineers are from an NGO called EpicHome which for the past few years has been building pro bono shelters for Orang Asli. The proposal is to rebuild permanent house for flood victims on their own land. We will construct strong framework & main structure which is extendable in the future. While the non structural part (windows, internal compartment, walls) can be modified depending on the creativity of the house owner using recycle & cheap local materials. The houses will be elevated 2 meters high over the ground in anticipation of next hit of flood. Later Mr Ng brought us for a tour through his office, gallery, Sekeping Tenggiri & his newly constructed public library. His design concept is fantastic; minimalist, practical yet economical. I might say this was the first meeting that I felt fully recharged & inspired by the end of session. I think thats a beauty of working in NGO along with sincere and enthusiastic party or publics. May God make ease our plan for us to become the instrument of His Mercy for entire humanrace.
