What a great weekend. After a few hours rest this afternoon, Im beginning to catch my second (or maybe its my fourth or fifth) wind. Started out by welcoming about 60 canoe paddlers from around the state (with a couple of folks from New York & Kansas too) for a weekend at Towns Bluff Park for the Three Rivers Paddle with the The Georgia Conservancy. With the help of my wonderful wife Lucy Sewell, we got up at 4:30 am Saturday to fix a hearty breakfast for the paddlers. Special thank to the Hazlehurst Fire Dept guys who brought out the rescue boat & made sure our guests had a fun & safe day on the river. After seeing them off for their day on the rivers, headed back to town & grilled about 100 hamburgers to help Lucy with the food kitchen at Hazlehurst First United Methodist Church. A shower & fresh clothes then back out to Towns Bluff for a great social time & a low county boil with the paddle group. Up again at 4:30 am Sunday to make breakfast for the paddlers (thanks again Lucy). After breakfast was the highlight of the weekend as I accompanied over half the group for a walking tour at Broxton Rocks. It was the first time I had been to this amazing place. (not sure how, but I somehow lost about 75 pics I took during the hike). Special thanks to DNRs Steve Freidman & South GA colleges Frankie Snow for guiding the trip. Then back out to Towns Bluff to check with the group that paddled down to Greys Landing & to see our guests off. I think I may sleep well tonight.
