What a learning curve Im going through! Today I crossed 30,000 - TopicsExpress

What a learning curve Im going through! Today I crossed 30,000 words, 1/3 of the way through to completing the book. And Im learning like a newborn infant learns about the world around it. The interesting thing is that every person will have a completely different approach to writing. What aces it for one person is total undoing for the next. So there is nowhere to look for instruction. All you can do is start writing and learn as you go. So many details. I cant project the plot too far ahead. I lose power like an engine running out of gas, almost immediately. Every scene has to be written having somewhere between a vague concept of what the next scene will be, to no concept at all. The next person will do it completely different. But this is how it works for me. There will be good days of 5,000+ words and bad days where I can barely write 50 words. I dont know how to control that yet. All I can do is go with the flow. What Im trying to do here is emphasize that for now, I am a bumbling idiot with no knowledge and even less experience; I just dove in and started doing it - learn as I go, clean up mistakes as I go, and keep on pushing forward. Then, one day, hopefully I will become proficient at it, and this will have been the path to getting there. No special talents, no special knowledge, just a lot of hands-on and a lot of consistent, persistent effort. This is how it works for everything - writing is just one of an infinite number of ways to apply this. Do what you love. You have no idea what youre cheating the world - and therefore yourself - out of if you dont. Quit the freaking excuses. If youre not good at it, youll become good by doing it. Whats in you matters. Far more than you will ever think it does. Incompetence and uselessness are manufactured through effort - nobody is born with those qualities.
