What a ripoff. Coming up the Florida Turnpike, out of the Miami - TopicsExpress

What a ripoff. Coming up the Florida Turnpike, out of the Miami area, there are 3 toll plazas. At the last of the three you take a ticket which gets you way up the state before you have to pay again. A year ago the total tolls for running the turnpike were about $16-$17. The closest plaza to Miami has recently been replaced by a toll by plate plaza. At this plaza you no longer have to stop to pay the toll, they simply take a picture of your tag and send you a bill. Seemed like a good idea to somebody (me) who had been in Miami Beach for a week and hates the turnpike and toll plazas anyway. I passed through this plaza on Oct 14th of this year. I just got my bill. Most of the bill was dedicated to threats and consequences of those that might not pay the bill. It also explained that all of the plazas up to 595 will be changed over and possibly others in the future. The bill also explained how great this whole system is. Great? For who? If I remember correctly the 1st converted toll plaza used to cost those of us without a SunPass $1.25. The stop to pay the toll took all of a minute, most times. Now? The toll is up to $1.30 and the newly assessed administrative charge adds an additional $2.50 for a total of $3.80. And strangely the funds are sent to an address in Atlanta. Hmmmm, thats in Georgia last time I checked.
