What a wonderful afternoon at New Yorks Metropolitan Opera for a beautiful recital by the great German lyric bass, René Pape, and superb pianist, Camillo Radicke. The program ranged from Beethoven to Dvořák to Roger Quilter to Mussorgsky to Lerner and Loewe! All of it delivered with Mr. Papes gorgeous instrument, an elegantly slender core cushioned in a golden resonance. Here are Messrs. Pape and Radicke in a performance of the Lullaby from Mussorgskys Songs and Dances of Death, one of todays featured works.
