What an amazing day! Started out at the Thomas Jefferson estate, Monticello. Then onto Arlington Cemetary. Passed the Pentagon and so many other landmarks. So much history. The Kennedy Memorial, the Washington monument, the wars all represented and still so raw in the sheer magnitude of the number of young men who gave ALL. so humbled and grateful to our men and women who serve our country, protect our rights and keep my family safe. At the changing of the guard there mustve been a hundred veterans there in wheelchairs (on their own field trip) watching the ceremony. The expressions on every earned line on their faces as those veterans looked on took my breath away. Our 5th graders waved and shyly said thank you to as many as possible as they wheeled by one by one in their wheelchairs. I will be revisiting my history books and brush up on my American history! Tomorrow, the Smithsonian, MLK memorial, FDR and about 100 more amazing things! Long day ahead, off to bed!
