What an awesome letter written from retired STATE POLICE OFFICER, Michael Arford. Its awesome to have his support! When you vote on May 6 for a Bartholomew County sheriff candidate, you are not voting for just a sheriff or a law enforcement officer, but for the CEO of a business with a $6.5 million budget. Those dollars belong to the taxpayers of Bartholomew County. T.A. Smith has 30 years’ experience working for the people of Bartholomew County in this sheriff’s department, and he believes in being fiscally responsible. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and Leadership Bartholomew County. During his tenure he has worked in every division of the department, which includes the jail division, communications, civil processes, undercover narcotics investigations (where he was certified by the federal Drug Enforcement Administration) and the road division. In 2003 he was named the Deputy of the Year by Sheriff Ken Whipker. As chief deputy he gained valuable experience writing budgets and proposals for the sheriff and the jail division. During this time he worked closely with the county treasurer and auditor as well as the County Council and County Commissioners. Smith has been very active in working with local youths, helping to build character by coaching baseball, by volunteering in youth hockey and being a camp counselor for the ISP/Kiwanis Career Camp. Now, he wants to use this experience and knowledge to not only make the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department the best in the state, but also bring the citizens of Bartholomew County the level of safety and service they deserve as well as the best bang for their buck. Smith is the right man for the job. He is honest, he has the training, he has the experience, he has the business know-how, and he is dedicated. Of all the candidates running for sheriff in this year’s election, who do you want in charge of this $6.5 million budget? Who do you want leading this department and its men and women? His experience and dedication speak for themselves. No other candidate has these qualifications. - Michael Arford tasmithforsheriff
