What are we fighting for? We can be the wisest, strongest, and most passionate there ever was, but if we lose sight of our foundation we’re nothing. “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18). So where then should we look? “Our eyes look to the LORD our God” (Psalm 123:2) For what do we hunger? “The desire of our soul is for Your name And for the remembrance of You” (Isaiah 26:8). And where should our hearts be? We accomplish the entire law by loving God and others, (Matthew 22:36-40). Again, scripture warns “If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing” (1 Corinthians 13:1-3) and terrifyingly Jesus explains that during Judgment “Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ ” (Matthew 27:22-23) Surely then, we cannot focus on anything before our relationship with Him.
