What beams out of Kigezi Region isnt what will be done to sustain Kigezi as the producer of vegetables and Kigezi( Irish) potatoes. Uganda imports Irish potatoes from Kenya to sustain the demand for Chips.( French flies) Its not what government will do to preserve the environment...that cold morning breeze of Kabale. Its not a plan to put up a modern Regional Hospital to save the money mothers who perish while giving birth and save the many kids who die before five years of age. No. What comes out of Kigezi is a kid who sang president Musevenis name, was invited in the so called presidential tent, hugged the presidents leg and when asked to go and sit, sat in the presidents chair, the so called Hot Chair, until it was given gifts and a soda....( Not a bursary until when it finishes School) The exhibited excitement over the kid demonstrates that our leaders are not in contact with the organic community. The kids of the elite have no time for politicians for they prefer to watch cartoons on TV. They wont even permit their parents watch news. In any case the parents are rarely with the kids for kids to hear them converse about Museveni. And when Museveni goes to villages, the tents are filled by the same lumpen elites, who certainly wouldnt take their exotic kids to Musevenis rallies. When Museveni has time to visit NAADS gardens etc, NAADS uses farms of the rich for accountability. Kids wouldnt leave their cartoons to run see Museveni. This guerrilla kid understood this vacuum, shouted Musevenis name....it would have been terrible if it had shouted Sejusa or Amama. And atleast it was able to get a soda. And I tell you the entire clan will enter the yellow bus, for the kid took a presidential soda. But what is in the politics of kids and or children? Children are a spiritual issue...and thats why Jesus welcomed them. Tycoons and politicians sacrifice them instead lambs for both political power and riches. There is a lot of activity around children during the election season. Originally, children belonged to the entire society. Now people think about their own children at the expense of other kids who arent biologically theirs. In the instant case, the Kigezi kid had become a tourist attraction. Its like the case of the Batwa who are the original inhabitants of Kigezi but like the Aborigines have been relegated to tourist sites. If we really care for kids as a people, lets think about their health, nutrition, education, shelter, clothing and security. Yes Soda is important but secondary.
