What did you dream about last night? Freud - TopicsExpress

What did you dream about last night? Freud believed that dreams were a way of acting out inhibited yearnings and unfulfilled wishes, their purpose being to help our conscious selves deal with the problematic content of our unconscious. But this theory has been rejected by many since, although the reason we dream still remains a mystery. The modern explanation is that dreams evolved as a form of simulator for us to rehearse survival strategies, which would explain why so many of our dreams have negative connotations and often consist of us being chased or followed. Yet another explanation is to allow us to process short term memory (information gathered over a short time) and assimilate the valuable data into long term memory. This is why proper sleep cycles are important to learning and proper emotional stability and cognitive thought. Many are fascinated by dreams and want them to fit into our narcissistic view of ourselves. In spite of the limitations in science and research at this time, I tend to lean toward the later explanation. I am a Christian psychologist and although am trained in traditional psychology, we also were required to train from an additional discipline. I take trichotomists point of view giving regard to the explanations offered in the Bible. When taken seriously and viewed in context, science once again explains and supports the Bible and its accuracy thousands of years before modern psychoanalysis. Dreams in context, can make sense of many variables in our lives, but do not allow yourself to pick up a book and assume it gives you answers about “your” dreams. This, if you want to seriously consider the implications of your “dreams”, should be worked out with a trained professional in the field of Christian Psychology and Counseling. You would be amazed at what you can discover about your self and destiny. God has a plan for you; be sure and understand it. One of the most common issues we deal with, is a misunderstanding of personal direction, calling, spiritual gifts, and assumed “truth”. I hope you will “like” our FB site and follow us.
