What do I need to do to be saved by God? I hear predominately - TopicsExpress

What do I need to do to be saved by God? I hear predominately that you must believe Jesus is Lord, son of God, recite a sinners prayer, and you are forever kept under the shroud of righteousness of Gods continually cleansing grace. Is that what the Bible says? Belief in Christ, yes - that of course is necessary in any conversion, but this question was asked by the Jews after Peters first Sermon Acts 2:37 they were pricked in their hearts and said sirs what must we do? This would be the perfect opportunity for Peter to tell them to believe in God and say the sinners prayer and receive grace, but Peter says each one of you repent and be baptized for the remission of of your sins If Believing was the end of the matter (which they obviously did in vs 27), why was baptism commanded for the purpose of forgiveness of sins? Is this an anomoly? All the conversions in the NT have the same elements either directly mentioned or inferred including Saul when he was stopped on the road to Damascus, referred to Jesus as Lord, and asked what do I do? Acts 22:10 this is an admission of belief and submission to the will of someone greater, so he is saved right? Why then was he commanded to go to Ananias to find out what he needed to do and was in turn told to 22:16 be baptized in order to wash away your sins? Why is this necessary if Paul was already saved? 2 Pet 3:21 clarifies that the water of baptism does not literally wash the sins off like dirt but does so through the act carried out in faith as obedience in which God makes man righteous and cleanses his sins. Like Abraham who was obedient through faith which was accounted to him for righteousness. Conversions with the same pattern - Acts 3:19, 8:12, 8:47, 2:38, 22:16. The elements to salvation I read about in Gods word include 1)Hearing the gospel Rom 10:17, 2)Believing that Jesus is the son of God John 3:16, 3)Repenting of your sins Luke 13:3, 4)Confessing your belief 10:9, 5)Baptism (buried in water) Mk 16:15-16, Acts 2:38, Acts 22:16, 6)Live faithfully and obediently 1Cor 6:9-10, Rev 2:10. The generally taught method of salvation out there is just false, and I believe can be clearly seen if the gospel is just read as it is written.
