What do Iowa teachers think about Common Core? I can tell you - TopicsExpress

What do Iowa teachers think about Common Core? I can tell you what one thinks. This is an email from a very old friend, who is probably no longer a friend after receiving my response. (I will not divulge the name of the teacher, so dont ask. Just be aware of the line of thinking of some in education.) Her response to my initial request for an opinion about Common Core: As for my opinion on Common Core, its irrelevant. Go to college and get your bachelors degree then take the tests for your state license. Teach for ten years, then you can form your own opinion. My response: As a parent of 3 children, I dont believe Im required to meet your qualifications to form an opinion as to what government bureaucrats want to teach my children. I also think the general public would be horrified if they knew a teacher doesnt believe parents have a right to speak or form opinions about education without meeting your ridiculous qualifications. Thats pretty scary! I want local and state control and funding of schools and I will stop and NOTHING to achieve it. Using your mentality, you shouldnt use your computer without first going to college and achieving a BS degree in software engineering, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. Let me know when you have completed those degrees. I assume you will want to do that before you respond. Wouldnt want to use it incorrectly.
