What do YOU know about Vitamin D? As any of you know that read my posts for a while, I had/have been diagnosed with Graves Disease. When first diagnosed, my first Korean endocrinologist put me on prescription vitamin D. I was in shock, so I had not gotten to the point where I could ask questions. He eventually stopped practicing due to illness. The next two endocrinologists I went to were former Air Force doctors, only interested in making me do RAI (RadioActive Iodine Therapy). This would kill or ablate my thyroid totally, and put me on synthroid for life. (As a digression - my thyroid is not the problem, my IMMUNE system is flawed. So, why kill a perfect organ under attack?) My general practitioner noticed that I was low on vitamin D. VERY low. she prescribed 800 iu of over the counter Vitamin D. All throughout this period, my hair was constantly falling out, and thinning. I was under the impression that was my lot… to have thinning hair. AFter the 800 iu, my hair was still falling out. BUT THEN… I went to a doctor who also believes in natural, common sense approaches (and he takes INSURANCE!). He tested me for food sensitivities and allergies. None of these other doctors did that. I knew there was a connection between eating certain foods, and the way I felt afterward. He found that I have high sensitivity to wheat and casein. And those are the ingredients I am drawn to constantly. Thats another post… Heres what I want you to know…. he also prescribed, through his office, 10,000 iu of vitamin D3. OMG… my hair started thickening up again, and my skin issues (very dry, immediate blistering in sunlight) started going away. I could tell that it was working wonderfully. There is always a new product or concept that comes out on the market that is the NEW product to use. BUT this vitamin D thing is real, and my childrens doctor promotes it as well. If you are not sure, have your levels checked. It made a world of difference for me. :)
