What do clients really want in a real estate agent? NEW YORK – Aug. 9, 2013 – Buyers and sellers looking for a Realtor want someone they can trust – not someone merely to provide information, as information is readily available these days. To build trust, Realtors should create a personal brand that shows how their niche or expertise separates them from other agents. “You need to be able to identify and articulate why you’re passionate about your work,” says Debbie Millman of New York-based Sterling Brands. “If you can’t, maybe you shouldn’t be selling real estate.” Realtors should consider their skills and strengths, as well as what they can offer based on market trends. It’s not necessary to go overboard with self-promotion, but they should Google their name; and if the results turn up blank or return outdated profiles, they need to update the information. They should use a current, professional photo; create a personal, mobile-enabled website; and ensure that their branding message is consistent across all online and offline platforms. Additionally, Realtors should claim and populate their Realtor profile and use third-party listing aggregators to maximize exposure.
